TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government would launch the 10th economic policy package on investment sector. Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said that the policy package details would be announced on Thursday, February 11, 2016.

Asked whether the policy package include the Investment Negative List (DNI), Pramono decline to confirm it. “The scope of the DNI is huge,” said Pramono at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, February 10, 2016.

The DNI revision has long been discussed by the government. Regulation on the DNI is set forth in Presidential Regulation Number 39 of 2014 on List of Business Fields Closed to Investment and Business Fields Open, with Conditions, to Investment. The revision is carried out to create wider investment opportunities. One of the most popular subject is foreign investments in film industry.

According to Pramono, despite the amendment, President Joko Widodo still wants protection for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM). One way of doing it is by limiting foreign or open investments to not pursue Rp10 billion project or below. “UMKM won’t be touched. It will be fully protected,” he said.

The next point of the 10th policy package are regarding cartels or trade chain, strategy for facing ASEAN economic community and building better employment opportunities. Pramono added that the 10th policy package is leaning towards modernization instead of liberalization. “The President said that the policy is made to enhance competitiveness and to improve investment climate,” he said.
