Minister Tjahjo Sacks IPDN Personnels for Beating Military Cadets

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Interior Minister Tjahjo Kumolo confirmed the dismissal of Domestic Governance Institute (Institut Pemerintahan Dalam Negeri / IPDN) personnels who has been proven guilty for beating military academy cadets. The ministry is forming a team to investigate the incident.



“Two have been confirmed fired, while three others are still in process. Whoever’s involved will get the sack,” Tjahjo said at Grand Sahid Hotel, Monday, November 30.



The beating started when a group of military academy cadet visited IPDN Jatinangor, West Java, for a comparative study on November 19. Two military academy cadets were beatened for snapping pictures in an area that is considered sacred by IPDN.



Investigator team will also investigate the alleged negligence of supervision. The team formed by the minister comprise of Director General of Population and Civil Registration Zudan Arif Fakhrullah, Head of Legal Bureau Sigit Widodo, and Director General of Politics and General Government Sudarmo.



“There will be an answer within the next three days on whether or not there were negligence,” said Tjahjo.



IPDN has been in a relatively good condition for the past year. The comparative study conducted by the Police Academy and Military Academy have went well. “If it’s proven that they started the fight, sanctions will be given to them,” Tjahjo said.
