TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Chairman of the Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders Association (ALFI) Yukki N. Hanafi said unrecorded transactions may happen during the pre-clearance stage.

Hanafi said on Monday evening, October 12, that the illegal act happens during pre-clearance and apart from logistics.

Previously President Joko Widodo said there are ‘under the table’ transactions worth between Rp120 million to Rp200 million in smuggling of containers with illegal goods.

Hanafi said 60 to 65 percent of imported goods shipped to Indonesia has not passed pre-clearance process, so adding their dwelling time.

"Pre-clearance involves granting of import permits. This case needs evidence, it is better [for this process to be] disciplined," he said.

Meanwhile, Achmad Ridwan Tento, Secretary General of the Indonesian Importers Association, said the government needs to investigate the deviation.

He said legitimate businesses that fully comply import requirements can not compete with illegal products at the same price.

"Illegal goods could damage the domestic industry. The legals cannot compete at the same price," he said.
