Transportation Ministry Issues Extreme Weather Notice for Shipping Industry

19 February 2021 15:31 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Transportation Ministry has issued a bad weather notice for sea transport technical implementation nits (UPT) in the shipping industry that is forecasted to last until the end of February.

The Ministry's Sea and Coast Guard Unit Director, Ahmad, said every port must keep a close eye on the weather changes through the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

“On February 17, the BMKG forecasted extreme weather and high tides to take place from February 18-24,” Ahmad wrote in Friday’s statement.

He also ordered ports to inform sea transport passengers on current developments of the weather and postpone embarking until the situation improves. The same goes to container ports.

The Transportation Ministry has also ordered ship captains to monitor the weather at least six hours before embarking on their journey and report back every six hours to port management after they have embarked.
