TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), the subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina, plans to buy eight ships this year. PIS president director Yoki Firnandi said that so far the company has bought five.
When met at the ICE BSD, Tangerang on Wednesday, July 12, Yoko said that Pertamina International Shipping would try to acquire a few more ships this year. The company, he said, must be selective as the ships not cheap.
According to Yoko, the current price of ships is high nowadays due to several reasons, including the lack of demand. "The second reason is the high international steel price."
The PIS ships plans to purchase have varying prices, from US$7 million to US$50 million.
As stated on Pertamina International Shipping's official website, the subholding integrated marine logistics has a total of 750 ships. In addition, PIS also manages time charters and spot charters that can be rented through e-chartering.
