Gov't to Announce Third Economic Package

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution said that the government will announce its third economic package this afternoon at the Presidential Palace.


Responding to the question related to changes in Premium-fuel price calculation formula, Darmin said that the new formula has been completed. Darwin however, refused to explain detalis related to the economic package. "Just wait until 5:00 PM [Western Indonesia Time]," Darwin said.


Last week, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo called on his ministers to discuss the formulation of the third economic package. In the meeting, Jokowi demanded that the package must considers several issue. During the meeting, Jokowi requested for a study on the possibility of reducing bank interest rate, which can be achieved by reducing bank operational cost.


Secondly, the President demanded the increase of buying power by implementing intensive labor projects. By involving society in government projects, they are expected to earn more higher income and improve their purchasing power. Other matters that requires extra attention in the package is the restructuring of small-medium enterprises.


Jokowi also highlighted fuel prices. Prior to the third package launch, Jokowi had demanded Pertamina to evaluate Premium-fuel price.
