Drug Suspect Dies in Custody in Surabaya

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A suspect involved in a drug felony have died in custody of Benowo Sector Police in Surabaya. The suspect, 23-years old Adam Prasetya or Bagus, passed away at East Java's Bhayangkara Police Hospital - preliminary results points to abuse by police officials during his time in custody.
The claim have been rebuffed by the Head of East Java Police, Ins. Gen. Anas Yusuf - according to him, Bagus died due to an illness as opposed to abuse. "His wife was here all the time - there was definitely no abuse by our officials," said Anas on Friday, August 28, 2015.
When asked about the bruises on Bagus' body, Anas said that bluish post-mortem marks often appear on human corpses - that said, he also assured that Police officials will cross check the cause of his death. If foul play is suspected, those involved will be investigated.
It is known that Bagus was arrested along with a woman named Sheila, by Benowo Police on August 15, 2015, on Jl. Sememi Jaya II in Benowo.
Bagus is suspected to have fallen victim to abuse by authorities, as he reportedly bled from his ears, and often vomited blood, before finally succumbing on August 25, 2015 at 19.00 local time.
