TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of Indonesia Internet Domain Name (Pandi) Andi Budimansyah supports the government’s step to increase cyber security. Indonesian people’s awareness of cyber security is still considerably weak. For instance, there are currently numerous website owners in Indonesia that do not acknowledge their webistes are being used for pishing.
Pishing is an action to forge someone’s website. A fake website is created to look exactly like an authentic website to gain advantage from transactions performed by the real website. Meanwhile, a malware is a vicious program that is installed by other people in servers throughout Indonesia or can also be installed in mobile phones also. At a certain moment, a malware can request the program to bypass a particular website.
“Meaning that our awareness is still weak. We alone cannot maintain our website. If we cannot guard it, pishing and malware can exist,” said Andi.
According to Andi, a cyber defense orientation is intended that industry sector has a path in terms of cyber security. Another purpose is to protect national interest. He pointed out on cyber crime to interfere with flight radars or ATMs. This interference can be used by certain parties to create chaos in a country if not anticipated well.
Currently, cyber attacks keeps coming and occurs repeatedly, said Andi. The attack can come from U.S. and China for instance. “But those attacks came from Indonesia, and we are used by other parties to attack ourselves through a malware,” he said.
