TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia noted a slowdown in economic growth in the second quarter of 2015. Suryamin, head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), said the economy grew 4.67 percent in quarter two, a year-on-year decline from last year's 5.03 percent.

On a quarterly basis, the growth figure shows a deceleration from the first quarter's 4.72 percent.

Despite the slowdown, Suryamin said that Indonesia's economy is "still better compared to other countries."

Speaking at his office in Jakarta today, August 5, Suryamin said that a number of Indonesia's trading partners such as the US, China and Sinagpore are also experiencing stagnant economy and decelerating growth.

Suramin also said that albeit a weakening economy, Indonesia is still far from a state of recession. He said that an economic recession would require negative growth rates for two quarters in a row.

"Ours is still above four percent," he said.

Indonesia's economic structure in the second quarter was dominated by Java provinces, which contributed 58.35 percent to the GDP. Sumatera provinces followed with 22.31 percent contribution, while provinces in Kalimantan accounted for 8.22 percent.
