Police to Eradicate Market Thugs during Ramadan

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Metro Jaya Regional Police Chief Inspector General Tito Karnavian said markets are highly vulnerable to thuggery, especially during Ramadan and Eid.


“Markets are most vulnerable to thuggery. Residents will use variety of shopping facilities there,” Tito said Monday, Jun 29. Therefore, Tito will deploy police personnels to eradicate market thugs. “Markets including in Senen, Tanah Abang and Mangga Dua should be cleaned.”


As a precaution, Tito will deploy personnels wearing civilian clothings and uniforms fully armed. “The deployment depends on the vulnerability point,” he said. “If threating the lives of the officers and the public, use lethal force.”


This action is part of the Ketupat Operation organized towards Eid. Authorities will also perform securities towards homecoming, market operations and controlling entertainment venues.
