TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Comm. Gen. Budi Waseso, Chief of the Crime Investigation Unit of the National Police, said that the police's authority on conducting wiretapping must be limited. "If we are free to wiretap anyone, everyone will feel insecure," Budi said on Thursday, June 25, 2015.
Budi said that wiretapping must be in accordance with existing regulation, which means that the police will have to apply for a court order to wiretap suspects currently under investigation.
"We can wiretap once we have a suspect," Budi said. "If [wiretapping] is not limited, it can lead to abuse of power," Budi added.
However, Budi refused to provide any comment related to the Corruption Eradication Commission wiretapping authority.
