TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The renovation of four traditional markets in Jembrana Regency, Bali, which is aimed at strengthening the democratic economy in the area, is presently still afoot.

“Democratic economy is one of Jembrana Regency Government’s programs, among them done by renovating traditional markets,” said Jembrana Deputy Regent I Made Kembang Hartawan on Tuesday.

He hoped that by improving these markets and prioritizing consumers' convenience, local traders could compete with supermarkets.

He also said that the temporary relocation of traders at Jembrana Public Traditional Market should also be heeded.

“We have to do this carefully and the renovation must also finish this year,” he said.

For the relocation, the traders will be placed alongside a 100-meter road and be provided with tents.

This year, the local government also renovate Pekutatan Public Market, while Tegalcangkring, Pendem and Gilimanuk markets will be renovated in 2016.
