TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf “JK” Kalla said that Japanese investors were interested in developing superfast train in Indonesia’s cities, not only in Jakarta.

“Japanese investors are also interested in developing [superfast train] in other cities, such as Surabaya and Bandung,” JK said upon arrival at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Friday, May 22, 2015.

According to JK, the Japanese investors expressed their interest in Indonesia’s transportation projects during his official visit to Japan on Wednesday, May 20, 2015. JK met Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and attended international seminar on Asia’s future.

However, Kalla did not confirm the exact date of the superfast train project to be realized. Currently, the cooperation is still being discussed.

JK added that the land transportation was not the only topic being discussed with the Japanese government and investors. JK said that the government will accelerate the port development in West Java to replace Cilamaya.

“We will start the development by the end of this year,” he said.
