TEMPO.CO, Bandung - State-run railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI) said that on April 15, 2015 some 27 million people accessed its online ticketing system, most of whom were looking for a July 14 departure—three days before Idul Fitri.
PT KAI director for human resources, general affairs, and IT, M. Kuncoro Wibowo, said during peak traffic the site hosted around 29,000 users. “It is all at the same time,” he said in Bandung on Thursday.
Kuncoro added, however, that the site’s server could only accommodate 25,000 users per second. “The people were enthusiastic, while our server’s capacity is limited,” he said.
PT KAI commercial director Bambang Eko Martono said the company would sell more tickets for Idul Fitri homecoming and prepare 15 additional trains that would depart from Jakarta. “It means we will see 30 trains from and to Jakarta,” he said.
The company recorded that 494,878 train tickets for the homecoming from D day-10 to D day+3 have been sold, and that it expected to collect Rp400 billion from the sales of homecoming tickets—a 10 percent increase from last year. PT KAI also targets to transport 5.9 million passengers—seven percent more than in last year.
