Middle East Investor to Build Refinery in Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources that an investors from the Middle East is planning to build an oil and gas refinery in Indonesia that will have a production capacity of up to 150,000 bpd. I.G.N. Wiratmadja, the ministry's acting director general of oil and gas said they cannot mention the investor's name yet.


According to Wiratmadja, the unnamed investor will sign the MoU on the refinery construction during the Asian-African Conference in Bandung, April. The investor is also ready supply Indonesia with crude oil for 20-30 years, partnering with state oil company PT Pertamina (Persero) as the offtaker.


In December last year, Pertamina took potential investors to support the company's refining development masterplan project in five of its refineries. The investors are Saudi Aramco, Sinopec, and JX Nippon. Through the project, Pertamina aims to increase its oil output to 1.6 million bpd.
