Fokus Lampung Chief Editor Shot Dead

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Fokus Lampung tabloid's Editor-in-Chief, 42-year-old Beni Faisal, was shot dead by a mysterious gunman on Sunday night, Jan. 25. Beni was shot in front of his house in Pulau Raya Street 3 No.38, Way Kandis Complex, Bandar Lampung.


“The victim suffered a gunshot wound in the left rib under the armpit and penetrated to the back,” Chief of Criminal Division of Bandar Lampung City Resort, Commissioner Deri Agung, said in a statement on Monday, Jan. 26.


The shooting occured at 8pm local time, where most of the residents were participating in a prayer, including the victim’s wife.


Before the shooting, Beni was inside the house taking care of his child. The victim was believed to have approached the suspects which have long lurked Beni’s house. “The victim carried a spear while approaching, then all the sudden the suspect opened fired,” Deri said.


Residents noticing the commotion tried to help the victim who were already laying on the ground covered in blood. The victim was immediately rushed to Immanuel Hospital, however, his life was unable to be saved.


The victim was then taken to Abdul Muluk Hospital to undergo an autopsy. “The victim was known for having good behaviours and active in community activities,” said Kabul, Beni’s neighbor.
