Police Declare VOA in Jakarta Safe

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Setiabudi Police Precinct, Jakarta, has declared that Voice of America (VOA) news-wire at Kuningan, South Jakarta, is safe from a bomb threat. Setiabudi Police Precinct chief Adjutant Sr. Comr. Audi Latuheru said the bomb squad has combed the office and did not found any explosives.


“[The area] has been declared sterile and safe at 12:00 local time,” Audi told Tempo on Saturday, January 10, 2015.


Audie explained that the Setiabudi Police Precint received a report from VOA over a bomb threat on Saturday morning. Jakarta Police immediately responded the situation by deploying tis bomb squad.


“We took an action by combing the area to ease the concern with the bomb threat,” he said.


Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Martinus Sitompol said the threat was sent to VOA’s Facebook page in the United States. US’ VOA then contacted its branch in Jakarta to report the threat to the local police.
