TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The South Jakarta Police said a crime was committed every 2 hours and 11 minutes in South Jakarta in 2014. The statistics, however, was better than last year's, in which a crime occurred every 1 hour and 44 minutes.

South Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Wahyu Hadiningrat said the crime rate in South Jakarta had dropped by 21 percent compared to last year's. in 2013, the South Jakarta Police handled 5,038 criminal cases, while the figure slipped to 3,983 cases this year.

The number of victims affected by crimes also decreased by 20 percent from 175 people in 2013 to 139 in 2014.

“It means that there were only 139 victimized people of the 100,000 residents in South Jakarta,” Wahyu explained.

The number of cases closed in 2014, however, also tumbled, as the South Jakarta Police solved 3,940 cases in 2013, but only did 2,455 this year.

“[The number of solved cases] dropped by 17 percent,” Wahyu said.
