TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The bodies of eight children who were mysteriously murdered have been found in Cairns, Australia on Friday, December 19, 2014.

The bodies of the victims, whose ages range between 18 months to 15 years, were found with extensive stab wounds, scattered across a home in Manoora.

BBC reported the Queensland Police were first alerted about the gruesome scene by a female caller. The unidentified female asked the police to check out a home on Murray Street at 11:20 local time.

According to police reports, the women were currently being treated at a hospital for her stab wounds. Investigators have established the home as a crime scene, and are currently looking for further evidence to proceed with the case.

A report by the Associated Press stated that the woman who reported the killings was related to the murdered children. That said, the Queensland Police have yet to confirm the nature of their relationship. "What's clear is that this is a truly tragic incident," said Cairns detective Bruno Asnicar.

The case has drawn the public's ire: Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said the case was an unspeakable crime. "All parents would be horrified if they learned of what happened in Cairns," said Abbott.
