TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police Department Commissioner Rikwanto urged taxi passengers to be more aware of these five areas considered to be dangerous of taxi heist.

Those five areas are Kebayoran Lama, Kebayoran Baru, SCBD, Kuningan and Senopati. “Many passengers there are well dressed,” Rikwanto said.

Other than staying cautious in those areas, Rikwanto said that passengers should be aware of dangerous hours between 7:30pm to 12am. That is when the heist usually occur.

Two taxi heists had occured at night within the past week. First heist was experienced by RW (27), who was mugged by a white cab with cab-code DP 8015 in November 28. The culprits had robbed a Blackberry Curve, an iPhone 5S and Rp1 million cash from her.

Second heist was experienced by RP (30) in the area of SCBD in December 1. The woman was mugged in a white cab with cab-code DP 8012. Her iPhone 5S, laptop, BCA ATM card and gold neckless were taken.

In order to prevent more heist, Rikwanto reminded people to be more aware in using cab services. “People should choose a cab that has a great track-record,” Rikwanto added.

People should also maintain their appearances by not wearing fancy jewelries and such because cab drivers chooses their victims with luxury looks, said Rikwanto.
