Chinese Investor Sets Eyes on Sulawesi Projects

TEMPO.CO, Makassar – China Communications Construction (CCC) is mulling to invest in number of mega-projects that will be built in the province of South Sulawesi. To that end, the Chinese company has established a consortium called PT CCC Indonesia.
PT CCC Indonesia marketing director Titien S. Syukir said they are keen on some infrastructure development in the province, such as railway, highway, and the expansion of Newport Makassar.
"The details will be discussed through a program of cooperation with the government of South Sulawesi," she said after meeting with South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo, yesterday.
Governor Limpo welcomes CCC's plans to invest in his province. He said that the arrival of investors it a result of an expose by President Joko Widodo who plans to develop the eastern parts Indonesia.
Meanwhile, acting chief of the Regional Investment Coordinating Board (BKPMD) for South Sulawesi, Irma Yasin Limpo, claimed he was unaware that a foreign investor will participate in the projects. "They should report this to the BKPMD so that it can be followed up," he said.
