Public Minivans in Bekasi Far from Roadworthy

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - About 500 angkot (public minivan) in Bekasi will be replaced with new ones since they are over 15 years old and are considered to be far from being roadworthy, Bekasi Land Transportation Organization chairman Hotman Pane said on Friday, October 31, 2014.
Hotman revealed that there are 5,000 public minivans in Bekasi serving 37 routes. According to Hotman, his organization has disseminated the repair program to vehicle owners.
However, not all owners agreed with the program since public transportation business is plummeting, while the number of private vehicles is increasing.
To address the issue, Hotman added, he suggested vehicle owners to buy minivans directly to car makers or extend the installment period. Hotman also suggested vehicle owners to auction their old minivans and use the money to buy new units.
Hotman also called on transportation business owners to be incorporated, while those who only have one unit should be affiliated to Bekasi Public Transportation Cooperative (Koasi).
