TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Elected president Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, speaking before the heads of faction that supports him on Thursday evening, explained about his meeting with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Bali that took place on Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Syarifuddin Suding, Head of the People's Conscience Party (Hanura) Faction who was present on Thursday, said that SBY had told Jokowi about his reason on refusing to increase the price of fuel.

SBY said that he has increased electricity tariffs and the price of Liquid Petroleum Gas. Therefore, SBY claimed that he does not want to add more burden to the people by increasing fuel price.

Suding added that, quoting Jokowi's explanation, the meeting was also said to have covered issues on fuel shortage in several regions. The shortage of subsidized fuel has forced social breakdown in some regions, with people lining for fuel.

Jokowi claimed that he plans to divert fuel subsidy to other productive sectors such as agriculture and small-medium enterprises.
