TEMPO.CO, Sydney - Two Indonesian men’s singles, Simon Santoso and Tommy Sugiarto, are going to take on each other at the Australian Badminton Open semifinal in Sydney, today. The All-Indonesian semifinal guarantees the country to secure one ticket to the final.

Simon Santoso advanced to the semi after putting aside Wing Ki Wong of Hong Kong by winning in two straight sets, 21-17, 21-15. On the other side of the court, Tommy was able to tumble Japanese Kento Momota down in two games, 21-18, 21-7.

Simon has always won over Tommy in their last two encounters.
However, the world’s number 5 Tommy is ranked higher than Simon who ranked in 18.

"Seeing the rank, Tommy is favorite [to be the winner], but I will play to the maximum," Simon said, Friday.

Other Indonesian representatives, Markis Kido/Pia Zebaidah in mixed doubles category, have also passed the quarter after winning over Singapore’s Danny Bawa Chrisnanta/Yu Yan Vanessa Neo. South Korean Ko Sung Hyun/Kim Ha Na awaits for Markis/Pia in semifinal today.
