TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The double-track railway on the nothern part of Java that connects Jakarta and Surabaya, is confirmed ready to be operated at the end of April 2014, next week. According to Muhartono, spokesman for the Director General of Trains at the Ministry of Transportation, out of a total length of 727 kilometers double-track railway, only 8 kilometers are not 100 percent ready.
Muhartono said that the Bojonegoro-Babat route, which stretches 35 kilometers long, will begin operation in April 17, 2014. Meanwhile, a 20 kilometers railway that connects Kandangan-Duduk will be operated starting today, April 21 2014. "The 40 kilometers Babat-Duduk route will start to be operated in April 24, 2014," he said to Tempo.
On the other hand, the 646 kilometers railway that connects Jakarta and Bojonegoro has begin operation since March 26, 2014. However, Muhartono could not confirm the operating schedule of the remaining 8 kilometers of the double-track railway, which connects Kandangan and Pasar Turi Surabaya.
