TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Commissioner of General Election Commission (KPU) Wahyu Setiawan said the public commercial of President Joko `Jokowi` Widodo in movie theaters was not a political campaign. According to Wahyu, a campaign ad features vision, mission, programs, and image to allure the public voter.
“We have to assess it based on the regulation,” said Wahyu in Cemara Post 19, Jakarta, Tuesday, September 18, adding that Jokowi’s advertisement did not promote his programs for the 2019 presidential election.
As reported earlier, the public advertisement showing several dam projects in Indonesia and Jokowi became social media's highlight. Several opposition parties asked the notice to be taken down.
Wahyu mentioned that based on KPU, the Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu), and The Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI), the advertisement of Jokowi did not contain the candidate images such as photos, pictures, voices, and the serial number for the election. “So, the dam commercial is not a campaign attempt.”
