TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Analyst Panin Sekuritas William Hartanto predicts that rupiah’s exchange rate will strengthen in today’s trade to Rp14,880-Rp15,000 against the United States dollar.
“There is a positive sentiment from the limited imports, so I predict that [rupiah] will bounce back,” said William when Tempo contacted him on Thursday, September 6.
The same sentiment was shared by Bank Mandiri market trade analyst Reny Eka Putri who predicts that rupiah will move positively to Rp14,905 – Rp15,015 per USD. Reny argues that external factors that are still affecting Indonesia are the economic crisis in Turkey and Argentina.
Reny stated that the pressure in emerging markets is still ongoing however there is has been some improvement in the issue regarding the trade negotiation between the United States and Canada.
“Domestically, the government’s policy to limit imports is hoped to at least slightly reduce the pressure rupiah is experiencing today,” said Reny.
Meanwhile, economist from the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) Bhima Yudhistira Adhinegara predicts that rupiah will be traded around Rp 14,970 - Rp 15,030 per USD. “It is a sentiment that investors are still worried about the Argentinian crisis,” he explained.
