Vehicles Limited During 2018 Asian Games to Reduce Pollution

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of Jakarta Transportation Department (BPTJ) Bambang Prihatno said that the transportation policy package is meant to reduce the amount of pollution throughout the 2018 Asian Games.
“Therefore, we applied a wider area for the odd-even number plate policy and other policies to reduce the CO2 level in the city’s air. Athletes might complain if the CO2 level is too high,” said Bambang at the Harris Hotel in Tebet, South Jakarta today, June 26.
According to Bambang, there will be no motorized vehicles allowed to enter the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium throughout the Asian Games to reduce athletes’ inconvenience throughout their participation in Asia’s largest sports fest.
Vehicles that intend to enter the GBK area will be diverted to parking spaces located at buildings in the vicinity of the GBK. These attempts are in hopes to reduce the CO2 level around GBK by an astonishing 50 percent.
“It must be reduced from now. I do not remember the specific numbers, but we must reduce CO2 pollution by 50 percent,” said Bambang.
The government has introduced a policy package to combat Jakarta’s transportation issues during the 2018 Asian Games which include the widening of the odd-even number plate area to roads that are in peripheral areas in Jakarta.
