TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Chairman of Indonesia’s opposition party Gerindra, Prabowo Subianto, recently said the current government’s political power was critical. He went as far to claim that the candidacy of state officials can be financially bought.
“The people with money hold the power, [these people] feel that they can freely decide who can become a regent, mayor, governor, or even the upcoming Indonesian president,” said Prabowo in a video footage he uploaded on his Facebook feed.
Prabowo said the situation ensued from the weakening economic sovereignty and ever-growing acts of corruption.

“Our institutions are weak, more money is being taken, this threatens the [country’s] political power,” said Prabowo. He further suggested that Indonesia is currently secretly owned by partnerships that were formed between state officials and the foreign and private sectors.
He also accused the current government of resorting to populist regulations and only introducing certain packages of policy to please the public. Prabowo also asserted that Article 33 of 2019 firmly mentions that the country’s land and water are for the government to control and should be used in its majority for the good of the people.
Prabowo Subianto personally considered Gerindra Party as one of the many last defense mechanisms in defending Indonesia’s independence. “However, [Gerindra] must not be too big-headed. That may be the truth. Maybe it’s just us that still talk about Article 33,” said Prabowo.
