Asian Games: 3,000 Athletes to Stay at 6 New Apartments

TEMPO.CO, Palembang - Palembang, South Sumatra, as the host of 18th Asian Games will welcome 3,159 athletes on August this year, as said by the deputy head of Asian Games Sport and Competition Ahmad Yusuf Wibowo. The athletes will stay in six newly-built apartments and 3 former apartments of 2011 SEA Games.

“The number based on the entry by number data,” said Yusuf on Friday, June 1, adding the number would likely increase or decrease until the final meeting.

According to Yusuf, Palembang will serve 11 sports with 17 disciplines and 92 events. There are 192 athletes of Bowling, 288 athletes of Canoe (CSP), 304 athletes of Canoe (TBR), 276 players of Women’s Football, 40 athletes of Roller Skate, and 66 athletes of Skate Board.

Yusuf went on to say that 318 athletes are listed in Rowing, 310 athletes in Sepak Takraw, 611 athletes in Shooting, 168 athletes will compete in climbing sports, 219 athletes in Tennis, 117 athletes in Soft Tennis, 114 athletes in Triathlon, and 136 athletes in Volley Beach.

Furthermore, Jakabaring Sports City president director Bambang Supriyanto said the management is ready to accommodate all athletes and delegates during 2018 Asian Games which starts on August 18-September 2.
