TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry predicts that the Trans Java toll road which connects Jakarta to Surabaya will be functional for Eid (Lebaran) mass-exodus this year.
The PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono in a press release on Thursday further suggested that the Jakarta-Surabaya toll road will be able to accommodate the 2018 Ramadan mass exodus but would be fully operable by year’s end.
Basuki said that the toll road would be able to accommodate the annual Muslim tradition despite facing the fact that land acquisition is still at 90 percent stage.

“The challenges are about accelerating the construction but also maintaining our discipline regarding the standard operating procedure and the work quality,” said Basuki.
He assured that the toll road’s functional status will be improved compared to last year, which was opened for the public under its emergency status where parts of the toll road were still under construction and grubby.
He explained that the trans-Java toll road has two critical locations where the section in Java and Surabaya meet. It is specifically at Kali Kuto along 160-meter distance at the Batang-Semarang toll section and the 496-meter Kenteng Bridge at the Semarang-Solo section.
The PUPR Ministry predicts that the bridge girder and steel plate will be completely installed in May before the Lebaran mass-exodus is predicted to begin.
