TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Public Works and Public Housing Ministry (PUPR) decided to postpone the construction of the Becakayu Toll road project after the column casting collapsed this morning.

The PUPR Ministry's Director General of road construction and maintenance Bina Marga Arie Setiadi Moerwanto said the decision was taken by PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono after the construction accident.

"It is right. The Minister (PUPR) orders to first hold moratorium regarding the construction," Arie said on Tuesday, February 20.

The moratorium will be carried out until the contractors have finished evaluating the work methods and project supervision mechanisms.

"The halt will last until each contractor submits a detailed work plan including supervision and approval from the OSH team (Health and Safety)," he said.

Earlier today, at around 3 a.m. local time, the concrete column casting was still wet while on the foundry and collapsed. The work area belongs to PT Waskita Karya.

The Becakayu Toll accident adds to the 14 list of construction accidents occurred since the last 6 months.
