TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto asked German manufacturer Siemens to partner with local producers of power plant components.
The minister’s request was revealed by his director of machinery industries Zakiyudin on Tuesday. On Feb. 6, Airlangga received a visit from Siemens Indonesia’s president director and CEO Prakash Chandran in Jakarta.

According to Zaki, the domestic industry has the capability to produce power plant components--such as boilers. However, in terms of technology, they still need the help of foreign partners.
He said that Siemens currently has a factory in Indonesia that produces power plant components, such as steam turbines and gas turbines, located in Cilegon, Banten.
They export 60 to 70 percent of their products, made in Indonesia, to several countries. “This means an ample contribution of foreign exchange reserves to Indonesia,” Zaki said.
