7 Spots in Jakarta to See Supermoon, Total Lunar Eclipse

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta administration has prepared seven spots in the capital to see the supermoon and total lunar eclipse.
Head of Tourism and Culture of Jakarta, Tinia Budiati, said the event of watching total lunar eclipse will be opened at 17:00 pm until 23:00. Here are the places:
1. Planetarium Jakarta
Taman Ismail Marzuki (UP PKJ) official Eko Wahyu Wibowo said the Planetarium provides 11 binoculars for the supermoon and total lunar eclipse observation. There are four binoculars for visitors, fice for backup, one for broadcast, and one for research observation and documentation.
"There will be astronomers who guide and explain the eclipse process," said Eko through WhatsApp message, on Wednesday, January 24.
The Planetarium is located in Taman Ismail Marzuki, Cikini, Central Jakarta. The January 31's event in this tourist attraction is free of charge. Visitors can also see the moon from the parking lot outside the Planetarium building.
2. National Monument (Monas)
National Monument (Monas) visitors can enjoy the full moon and eclipse from Monas park to the top of Monas. To get on top of the monument is charged Rp20,000 for adults and Rp10,000 for children.
3. Betawi Cultural Village Setu Babakan
Before seeing the supermoon, residents and visitors of Betawi Cultural Village Setu Babakan can enjoy a culinary tour. In the afternoon, the committee prepares a variety of Betawi typical foods, such as kerak telor, selendang mayang, laksa, pletok beer, dodol, and many others.
To enter tourist attraction is free of charge.
4. Fatahillah Park, Old Town (Taman Fatahillah, Kota Tua)
Head of Old Town (Kota Tua) Area Management Unit Norviadi S. Husodo said Taman Fatahillah is a suitable place to see the natural phenomenon. They will invite the astronomy community to provide a full moon observation tools and guide the tourists.
5. Thousand Islands
There are many locations in Thousand Islands to witness the supermoon, namely the Love Bridge (Jembatan Cinta), Tidung Island, Pari Island, Pasir Perawan Island and the wide and open dock in Harapan Island.
Tourists can also enjoy the full moon on the beach and around the villas on Panggang Island, as well as on the Sakura Beach in Untung Jawa Island.
There are several transportation options to go to the Thousand Islands. Visitors can go from Kali Adem Muara Angke Port in North Jakarta with traditional wooden boats that charge Rp60,000 per person. The journey is 2.5 hours. Or using a fast boat with only a 1.5 hours trip, with the same ticket price.
Another option is to ride speedboat from Marina Ancol for Rp150,000. If you want cheaper cost you can go aboard by Pelni ship from Sunda Kelapa Port and go directly to Pramuka Island with 4 hours longer trip. Tourists can also depart from Tanjung Pasir in Tangerang with shipping costs Rp25,000.
6. Beautiful Indonesia in Miniature Park (TMII)
Some recommended places to see the supermoon and the total lunar eclipse in TMII is at the Pancasila Fire Monument (Tugu Api Pancasila) and archive area. TMII Culture and Tourism Information Manager Ertis Yulia said there are two education facilities in TMII which are suitable for the supermoon observation spots, namely Skyworld and Science and Technology Museum (Museum Iptek).
To get into the two places, visitors can buy tickets costed at Rp16,500 for the Museum Iptek and Rp70,000 for the Skyworld. Visitors are able to enter in the afternoon. "We will facilitate the public to see the supermoon," said Ertis.
7. Taman Impian Jaya Ancol
Jakarta Head of Information and Development Department of Tourism and Culture, Alberto Ali, said visitors simply pay for tickets at Ancol gate to enjoy the phenomena of supermoon and the lunar eclipse on the beach.
