Planetarium to Hold Events during Supermoon, Lunar Eclipse

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Planetarium and Observatory has prepared a special event for visitors who plan to attend the observation of the supermoon and lunar eclipse taking place on January 31.
Taman Ismail Marzuki Technical Performance and Publication Unit Head Eko Wahyu Wibowo said that the planetarium has prepared eleven telescopes which will be used to observe the phenomenon. However, only four will be provided to the public while the rest will be used for a live feed, research, and backup units.

“There will be an astronomer who will guide audiences throughout the event,” said Eko on Wednesday, January 24. There will be a total of 22 astronomers standing by, consisting of the planetarium’s astronomers and from the Jakarta Amateur Astronomy Association (HAAJ).
Other than telescopes, the planetarium will also display a large screen used to show live broadcasts of the observations.

Eko reminded that there are no specific locations to observe this phenomenon, as long as the sky is clear it can be observed from any location in the country.
The supermoon and lunar eclipse can be observed starting at 18:48:27 Indonesian Western Time until 22:11:11 Indonesian Western Time.
