KPK Respond to Setya Novanto Irrational Sickness Excuses in Court

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Deputy Chairman Saut Situmorong said that KPK doctors will closely monitor each of its detainees that include the well-known defendant of the e-KTP graft, Setya Novanto.
“KPK Doctors monitors the health of every detainee and not only Setya,” said Saut on Friday, December 15.

His statement is a direct response to Setya Novanto’s claims during his court trial regarding the treatment he received from KPK doctors. Setya claims that the doctors did not provide him with medicines which caused him to go to the bathroom dozens of times because of diarrhea.
Saut also suggested that prison supervisors periodically monitor every activity that is conducted by the detainees, whether they are going through a series of court sessions or not. Meanwhile, KPK Spokesman Febri Diansyah confirmed that every prisoner receives a medical check-up prior to their trial.
Febri also urged Setya Novanto to focus on the case he is facing and provide evidence during the trial. He also suggested that defendants should not use their sickness as excuses to avoid or delay a legal proceeding.
