TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has allocated Rp1.7 trillion of grant funding in the draft 2018 regional budget (APBD) to mass organizations, including 9 Islamic study groups (majlis taklim).
Unlike Bamus Betawi that gets Rp5 million grant or Laskar Merah Putih (Red and White Forces) that is given Rp500 million, the majlis taklims only get Rp175 million.
Jakarta Education, Mental and Spiritual Bureau head Hendra Hidayat said that there are no specific requirements for majlis taklims to get grant funding. In addition, the amount was set after the bureau inspected the religious groups’ premises. He said that the funding is given as a ‘stimulus’.

In the draft 2018 regional budget, nine majlis taklim will be given grant funding next year. Tempo gathered that 2017 budget listed in the website apbd.jakarta.go.id did not include any majlis taklim in the list of beneficiaries.
