TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - House of Representatives (DPR) Deputy Speaker Fadli Zon suggested the Communications and Information Ministry to summon telecommunication service providers to prevent the spread of pornographic GIF contents within the WhatsApp application.
“The Communications and Information must invite all telecommunication service providers to analyze how far they can prevent pornographic contents in WhatsApp,” said Fadli on Monday, November 6.
Fadli urges telecommunication companies to participate in preventing pornographic contents before the spread is uncontainable.
“I think WhatsApp is very useful for the public, considering that most of us use it here in Indonesia. It doesn’t need to be blocked. This pornographic content issue can be addressed,” said Fadli Zon.
Previously, the discovery of a pornographic content through the WhatsApp’s GIF feature caused a public outcry. This feature was originally introduced by WhatsApp in 2016 through Apple’s iOS and was then adopted to Android-based mobile phones.
