TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Boyolali administration is planning to make the Merapi - Merbabu hiking race as an annual event.
“The Regent is interested in making the hiking race as an annual event,” Merapi-Merbabu Hiking Race Committee chief Imam Kadofi said in Boyolali on Tuesday, August 2.
This year, the event was held on July 22 and 23. In 2016, the race involved climbing and descending Mount Merapi as fast as possible.
The hiking race this year required participants to explore a hiking track that connects a number of tourist destinations in Merapi and Merbabu. The race was one of the Boyolali Administration’s programs held at a national scale.
The event was held to boost Boyolali’s image and branding. The regency also holds music, dance, sports, rally tours, and cultural events in a new format at the regional and global scales, in a bid to attract foreign tourists and investors.
“We spend Rp23 billion to build Boyolali’s brand by holding art and culture festivals, as well as sending art ambassadors abroad each year,” Boyolali Regent Seno Samodro said.
