TEMPO.CO, Depok - Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu supports the order to shoot on the spot the drug dealers smuggling illegal drugs into Indonesia. He also agrees that drug dealers must be charged with a severe punishment.
“It gets worse every day and [the current law] isn’t effective. Just like drug dosage that can be increased, punishments [for drug dealers] must also more severe,” said Ryamizard Friday, August 4.

He argues that the drug distribution route to Indonesia is not only from China but also from Malaysia and Thailand. Ryamizard hopes that the shoot-on-the-spot policy for drug dealers can be an effective deterrent.
Indonesian authorities recently foiled a smuggling attempt of one ton of crystal meth at Hotel Mandalika port in Anyer, Banten. The police have arrested four perpetrators of Taiwan nationals and one of them was shot dead for resisting arrest.
