TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Sumenep Administration of East Java are optimistic that Trunojoyo Airport can serve commercial flights by the end of 2017. Such optimism was expressed by Sumenep Regent KH Busyro Karim after observing proving flight of Wing's Air aircraft in Trunojoyo Airport on Saturday (22/7). Wing's Airline will serve commercial flight with the route Sumenep-Surabaya.
"God willing, by the end of this year Trunojoyo is expected to serve commercial flights. Airline management also deem this airport feasible to operate," Busyro said.
The problem is, Busyro explained, airline management still have concerns and complaints and those need to be met by December 2017. Among other things are unrefined asphalt of the runway and the close distance of the landing lane to PGRI high school building. "For the latter problem, the temporary solution is to remove the second floor and for the long term, we will relocate the school. For the former problem, it will be refined this week,” he continued.
Despite the official route Sumenep-Surabaya, Busyro expects to implement connecting flight system so that Trunojoyo can still provide flight tickets to other destinations. Commercial flights from Trunojoyo Airport are planned to be available every day from Juanda Surabaya at 12.00 and from Sumenep at 13.00 local time facilitated by Wing's Air ATR 47 with the capacity of 72 passengers.
