TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pollster Polling Center published results of Anti-Corruption National Survey 2017 to measures publics trust in the anti-graft agency KPK. The survey, done in collaboration with Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW), was conducted in April and May 2017 on 2,235 people the country.
The results showed that 86 percent of the respondents view that the President and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) are the most trustworthy institutions. The public considers that the level of corruption over the last year remained stagnant.
However, the public views that the KPK is the most accountable institution in eradication corruption.
Meanwhile, public’s trust in the House of Representatives is relatively low. According to Polling Center representative Heny Susilowati, such a low trust in the House was due to a communication gap and negative perception on the House among the public.
In addition to the KPK, the public highly trusts President Joko Widodo or Jokowi for his assertive actions against corruption.
Based on the survey results, the respondents view that the most corrupt sector is the recruitment of civil servants and police officers. About 56 percent of the respondents indicated that they had applied for civil servant positions and admitted that they were asked to pay an amount of money to certain individuals.
In addition, 50 percent of the respondents who interacted with police institutions said that they had been asked to provide money or unofficial gifts.
