TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An unknown man stabbed two Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel inside the Falatehan Mosque in South Jakarta on Friday, June 30. The suspect managed to injure two of the officers before being neutralized by another police member.
National Police spokesperson General Rikwanto revealed that the attack took place right after the officers finished an evening prayer.
“The suspect who prayed with the victims suddenly shouted and stabbed the two officers beside him,” Rikwanto explained.
After stabbing the two officers, the suspect threatened other people in the Mosque with a knife and attempted to escape. The suspect ran towards Blok M bus terminal.
“Warning shots were fired but the suspect reacted by confronting the police personnel [who fired the warning shot], we had to neutralize the suspect,” Rikwanto added.
Both victims, Adj. Comr. Dede Suhadi and 1st Brig. Syaiful Bakhtiar were immediately rushed to Pertamina Hospital nearby. The suspect allegedly died at the scene.
