TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesman Febri Diansyah said that the agency is unfazed by the House of Representatives’ (DPR) plan to launch an inquiry over the testimony of Miryam S. Haryani, a witness in the electronic identity cards or e-KTP graft case.
“In relation to a right of inquiry, the KPK will stay focused on the handling of the case in accordance with the law,” Febri said yesterday at the KPK building in Jakarta.
Febri said that the process of launching a right of inquiry (hak angket) will have an impact on the effort to crack down on the e-KTP case. He said that the right of inquiry may disturb legal proceedings taken by the KPK.
Earlier, the majority of the DPR factions have expressed their opposition to the DPR’s Legal Commission plan to launch a right of inquiry over the recording of witness Miryam S. Haryani’s interrogation in e-KTP case.
The United Development Party (PPP) faction secretary Amir Uskara said that he has instructed his subordinates not to sign off the right of inquiry, citing lack of deliberations among faction members.
Golkar Party faction secretary Agus Gumiwang said: “Golkar Party faction in not in a position to support [a right of inquiry],” he said.
The Gerindra Party central executive board in a press statement instructed faction executives to reject the planned right of inquiry. It reasoned that corruption eradication efforts are one of the party’s priorities.
The Democrat Party faction deputy speaker Benny K. Harman said that he opposes the right of inquiry for fear of weakening the KPK.
Meanwhile, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and the National Mandate Party (PAN) are still studying the plan to launch a right of inquiry.
The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) is undecided on whether to support the right of inquiry.
The National Democrat (Nasdem) Party faction secretary Syarif Abdullah Alkadrie said that the party does not have any objection to the planned right of inquiry. However, the faction leadership has not made an official decision.
