TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita said that staple food supplies for Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr will be enough to cover people's needs. "Prior to Ramadan, supplies are safe," Enggartiasto said on Monday, April 3, 2017.
Enggartiasto had also instructed all regional government officials to conduct field inspection. In addition the Minister urged distributors to report their supplies. "Everyone must file reports. Report their stocks, including its prices, so we can monitor," Enggartiasto said.
Enggartiasto added that modern retail sector will not be allowed to sell products exceeding its maximum price limit. "The mandatory report regulation has been initiated and has been signed by the Law and Human Rights Ministry," Enggartiasto stated.
Previously, the Trade Ministry has conducted monitoring efforts to confirm the availability of supplies, distribution, and price stability of staple foods prior to Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
"The Trade Minister attempted to anticipate any possibilities of price increase before religious festivities. Naturally, prices will increase because of increasing demand. We need to anticipate this by providing supplies," Enggartiasto said.
