TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Papua Governor Lukas Enembe met with President Joko Widodo or Jokowi in Jakarta over Freeport row. “Mr. Governor is in Jakarta and will soon meet President Joko Widodo; he will, among others, discuss Freeport issue,” Papua regional secretary TEA Heri Dosinaen told 300 protesters at the compound of gubernatorial office in Jayapura City, Papua, on Monday, March 13, 2017.
The protesters expressed their support for the central and regional government against the local unit of U.S.-based miner Freeport McMoRan.
He said that Governor Lukas Enembe has long been voicing concern over PT Freeport. “Since the inauguration of Papua Governor on April 13, 2013, some 17 points have been conveyed to Freeport… among others, over the construction of a smelter in Papua,” he said.
Moreover, Heri said that the Governor demands PT Freeport to pay employee wages via Bank Papua. “Also the demand for Freeport to open an office in Papua and the operatorship of Timika airport to be handed over to the Papua administration,” he said.
Moreover, Heri said that Governor Lukas Enembe demands payment of surface water taxes based on Jakarta court decision.
