TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's men double Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Marcus Fernaldi Gideon successfully won the All England badminton championship title after beating China's Li Jun Hui and Liu Yu Chen in the final held at Barclays Arena, Birmingham, England on Sunday, March 12, 2017.
Both teams played aggressively from the start. Early in the first set, Kevin and Marcus led and dominated the game. Halfway through the first set, Kevin failed to take advantage of Li Jun Hui's smash, turning the score to 13-14 in favor of the Chinese pair.
The first set saw the two pairings overpower each other. Jun Hiu and Yu Chen managed to counter Kevin and Marcus' quick play. The young Indonesian double however, closed the first set with a 20-19 victory.
Afterward, Kevin and Marcus regained domination. The speed at which the tournament's fifth seeds hit the shuttle forced Jun Hu and Yu Chen to make errors. As a result, they racked up points in the second set and led by 11-7.
Kevin and Marcus managed to control the pace as the game continues. They had led by eight points before ending the game by 21-14.
The victory made the Indonesian men double pair as the only winners from Indonesia in the 2017 All England championship.
