TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The "Wonderful Indonesia" pavilion won two awards in the "Los Angeles and Adventure Show 2017" held in the United States on February 18 and 19, 2017. Tourism Minister Arief Yahya in a press release said that the awards boost Indonesia's confidence and credibility, as well as confirming the quality of the "Wonderful Indonesia" brand in the international community.
The Indonesian pavilion was selected as the best of show cultural display and the best dance world heritage cultural center. Among countries competing for the awards were China, Spain, Panama, Tahiti, Egypt and other Middle Eastern countries.
I Gede Pitana, deputy minister for overseas promotion at the Tourism Ministry, and Hari Budiarty, head of promotion for the US and Africa at the Tourism Ministry, said that the achievement reflected Indonesia’s creativity that could be appealing for the international community.
Hari said that the Wonderful Indonesia pavilion offered hospitality and culinary choices. The pavilion also featured traditional dances and theater shows.
"All of them were like magnets for visitors to enjoy. We heard a lot of praises," Hari said, adding that the success triggered the visitors to go on a trip to Indonesia.
Five Indonesian travel agents, three US travel agents and Singapore airlines booked orders from tourists to visit Indonesia.
The government set a target to achieve 15 million foreign tourist visits this year, which is higher than the achievement made last year that stood at 12 million. In a bid to meet the target, the government initiated promotional activities and exhibitions overseas.
