TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo, expressed his optimism about his decision to reinstate Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama as Jakarta Governor as his campaign leave period expires. Tjahjo also stated his confidence that the Supreme Court will not issue any verdict that could influence his decision.
"The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has issued a statement, [saying] that he hand over [the decision] completely to the Minister of Home Affairs," Tjahjo said on Thursday, February 16, 2017.
Ahok's reinstatement as Jakarta Governor has raised questions among a number of people. Many argued that in accordance with Article 84 of the Regional Government Law, Ahok can be dismissed from his position becausr of his status as a suspect of an alleged blasphemy subject to five years of imprisonment. year incarceration.
According to Tjahjo, Ahok's current status is not related to Article 83 because he is still subject to two alternative charges. Therefore, Tjahko explained that Ahok will have to wait for a definite sentence to be subject to Article 83.
"Basically, that's my opinion. I admit that the Regional Government Law and the charges can contain multiple interpretations. I will take responsibility of my decision to President Joko Widodo,” Tjahjo said.
