TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Small and Medium Enterprises' handicraft products will be exhibited in New York Now 2017 in August 2017.
“This is a great opportunity for Indonesian SMEs to enter the U.S. market,” said Indonesian International Council for Small Business (ICSB) President Hermawan Kartajaya on Tuesday, January 31, 2017.
According to Hermawan, ICSB is ready to support the event that is initiated by the Indonesian Consulate General in New York City.
The Consulate General in New York City also plans to partner up with U.S. Handicraft Consultant, Jennifer Isaacson, in organizing a workshop of handicraft creations produced by SMEs in Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya.
“[Our] goal is to select the products and the SMEs that are qualified to be promoted through the New York Now Exhibition in August 2017,” says Hermawan.
Jennifer has a 30-year experience in United States’ retail sector and has worked together with a number of Indonesian craftsmen for more than 25 years.
“Her experience and knowledge will definitely be shared in the event and will be useful in improving the quality and competitiveness of Indonesian products in the U.S. market,” Hermawan added.
In 2016, the Cooperatives and SMEs Ministry, Trade Ministry, and Indonesia’s Consulate General in NYC sponsored 20 SMEs that participated in the 2016 New York Now event.
“We hope the number of participants will increase this year,” he said.
Other than empowering SME business players in Indonesia, the Consulate General has also facilitated Start Up business workshops for Indonesians living in New York City.
“Many Indonesian businessmen in the work area of Indonesia’s Consulate General in NYC and Philadelphia have utilized this facility,” Hermawan said.
